Setup guide
- Connect the Digirig by USB, and to the Baofeng with the Kenwood-style (K1) cable. Turn the radio's VOX off when using serial PTT.
- Program channels with CHIRP and choose the channel on the radio itself.
- Use desktop Chrome or Edge. Click "Allow audio and list devices" and pick the USB audio device for "To radio" and "From radio."
- Click "Connect Digirig" and pick the CP210x port. Send the 1 kHz test into a dummy load and lower the transmit level until it's clean.
- Turn on Training mode to rehearse without keying the radio.

North America uses 144.390 MHz for APRS; most of Europe uses 144.800. Set the radio to that frequency. Keep the transmit level moderate: too loud distorts and other stations can't decode you. Fixed stations should beacon every 10 to 30 minutes, not more often.

NOAA Weather Radio
Your Baofeng can receive NOAA Weather Radio. Program these as receive-only channels; your nearest transmitter is one of them: 162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, 162.550 MHz.
Most NWS offices want reports of tornadoes, funnel clouds, rotating wall clouds, hail, wind gusts of 50 mph or more, wind damage, flooding, and heavy rain or snow. Your office's spotter training lists its exact thresholds. If anyone is in danger, call 911 first.

Your team's shared list of SKYWARN nets; everyone on this site sees the same list. Copy frequencies from your NWS office's SKYWARN page or your net managers, and add the source so others can check it.
